Croxteth Hall summer term trip

We had a brilliant trip on Tuesday 2nd June to Croxteth Hall and Gardens.  This was as an opening to our Literacy unit, as we are reading "The Secret Garden" this half term.

In the morning we were taken on a tour of the house and showed how the servants worked downstairs and how Lord and Lady Sefton lived upstairs.  After that we spent some time in a classroom exploring Victorian artefacts and learning all about what life in the house would have been like at the time that The Secret Garden was written.

After lunch we had a play on the play area, which was brilliant fun! Then we went into the walled garden to read the beginning of The Secret Garden - it really came to life, as we could see a few green doors tucked away behind the ivy and could really imagine Mary's excitement at discovering the garden. It even started to rain in real life just as it did in the story! We explored the garden before getting too wet, then walked through the grounds to meet our coach to come home.  Miss Hughes got a bit carried away with the camera - we hope you like all of our photos of the day!
