Economic Understanding
At Springwell Park we believe in educating our pupils on having an economic understanding of how they can make sensible choices with money.
DebtAware
Our Y5 and Y6 pupils work with the charity DebtAware.
The DebtAware team deliver the key lesson for each module, before children from the class are selected to become Money Mentors.
These Money Mentors are trained to lead the class on three further DebtAware tasks which are completed over the following two weeks. The Money Mentors then mark their classmates work, receiving a badge and certificate for their hard work!
Careers
We talk to the children about different types of jobs from an early age and what skill sets would be required for each occupation. We also talk to the children about what they would like to do when they get older and why. When the children get older we then discuss what route they would need to take to get there and what subject specialisms and character qualities each occupation would require. We also talk about life skills and how to become more independent too.
Positive Footprints
Our Y5 pupils complete the Positive Footprints programme.
This programme is all about raising aspirations and opening up the world of work. It shows children what careers are out there and the skills they’ll need to leave a positive footprint wherever they go in life.
It’s also about building their self-belief, their resilience, recognising their qualities and how they could be used in the workplace.
