Reading
Try to read with your child everyday. Please sign the reading record each time you read with your child - this is very important so we can monitor the home support. We will have a reading incentive in class in which your child can earn prizes for reading.
Children will begin in Reception with a picture book. Please encourage your child to talk in detail about what they can see in each picture. Once your child is able to blend sounds to read words, they will also be issued a blending book.
Keywords
Children will be issued with a set of keywords to practise and learn at home. The first set of words includes the characters that will appear in some of the children's reading books. There are 10 sets of key words. The key words are linked directly to the words that appear in our school reading books, so when your child completes a set of key words, reading by sight without hesitation, they will also move on to the next set.
Home/School Books
Your child will be set a task to complete at home on a Friday. This should ideally be completed over the weekend and returned to school on a Monday. Tasks will vary in topic and skills required, but will always link to learning that has taken place in the classroom.
