Computing

Computing at Springwell Park

In EYFS, we begin developing  our computing skills and knowledge in the 'understanding the world' area of learning. This learning is the foundation for our computing work when we start KS1.

The Computing curriculum at Springwell Park is designed to equip our children with computing skills that are fundamental in a digital world. Computing lessons encourage the children to develop skills in problem solving and to become critical thinkers. Our children are able to use technology confidently and safely as a tool for their learning and to express themselves creatively.

Our curriculum has been designed to follow a progression of skills in the three strands of Computing (computer science, information technology, digital literacy), as well as Online Safety. It follows the structure of the National Curriculum to ensure that all pupils

  • can understand and apply the principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation (computer science)

  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems (computer science)

  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems (information technology)

  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology (digital literacy)
