Here you will find everything you need to know about year 2.

PE 

PE is every Monday. Please send your child to school in their PE kit. A plain tracksuit is suitable if the weather is chilly! Our PE lessons are taught by Mr Vickers. 

Homework 

Your child will have their own green homework book. In this book, you will find everything you need to know about what your child is learning at school for that half term, and their maths facts and spellings. 

For topic and science, your child will have a knowledge organiser inserted into their homework book. This knowledge organiser will provide you with an overview of what we are learning, and teach your child the rich vocabulary they will be learning to support their learning. 

Maths facts and spellings should be practised every night, ready for their test on a Friday. We will write your child's score in their homework book, so please ensure the homework book is in school every Friday. 

Reading 

Reading is really important. This is the year that your child will be encouraged to be as independent as they can be in their learning. Reading regularly at home will support your child with all aspects of their learning in school, from reading the questions in their maths books, to reading instructions in a science experiment. 

In 2M, we love to celebrate reading success! Children who read their reading book 4 or more times in a week, will be given a certificate on a Friday along with a reading prize! 

Class texts 

To nurture your child's love of reading, we will be voting for our class texts. As a class, no matter how busy we are, we always find time to read a good book! At the moment, our current class text is 'The Hundred Mile An Hour Dog' by David Jeremy Strong. These class texts are not linked to any curriculum subjects, they are merely for pleasure and enjoyment and to show your child there is a world full of books out there! 

The children will vote for the next class text when we have finished this current text. 

Class Dojo

I will use class dojo daily to communicate with you about your child's day, important letters and announcements. Here, you will be able to share learning with me, and you will be able to contact me directly through direct messaging. If you haven't already, please connect to me on class dojo. I can send you another invite to connect if you need it. 

Learning platforms. 

Your child will have their own log-ins to access these learning platforms. Their log-in information will be the same from year 1.
