Disability Awareness Day~ 13th June 2017
On Tuesday 13th June 2017, we had an assembly taken by John McCorkell for Disability Awareness Day, which links to our School Code Of Conduct to 'Treat each other with respect and value our differences'. Our Code Of Conduct is closely linked to the core Fundamental British Values of Mutual Respect.
John talked to us about his disability and how he has to use a wheelchair or crutches. He also discussed with us how everyone should be treated equally, no matter what their disability is. John explained about his school life and how he developed a skill of playing wheelchair basketball.
In the afternoon, both year five classes took part in a workshop with John. We experienced what life would be like to have a disability including: being in a wheelchair, being deaf, being blind and being unable to speak.
