Our Intent

Our Early Years Intent

Intent

At Springwell Park, our aim is to nurture curious, confident and capable learners who flourish regardless of background or need. We foster a love of learning through a language-rich, engaging environment that supports development across the Prime and Specific Areas of the EYFS.

We adopt a child-centred approach, valuing children’s interests and experiences while enhancing their cultural capital. We follow children’s interests in our planning of the curriculum, which changes often due to the broad interests of each cohort. Our goal is for every child to make strong progress in both the prime and specific areas of the EYFS development matters document, to transition confidently into Year 1. Our broad, progressive curriculum ensures children build knowledge and skills over time, with tailored interventions to ensure no child falls behind.

Implementation

Our play-based and experiential curriculum is guided by Development Matters and underpinned by the four key principles of the EYFS: the unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments, and the importance of learning and development.

Strong parental partnerships, effective assessment and ongoing professional development ensure children’s needs are met and progress is secure.

We carefully plan meaningful learning opportunities, including high-quality communication, sustained shared thinking and physical challenge. We understand that children in the Early Years learn best through play, being able to apply what they have learnt in a context they understand and enjoy.

Early reading is taught through Read Write Inc., with regular assessment and targeted support to ensure all children succeed. Maths is supported by White Rose and Mastering Number, with interventions provided where needed.

Impact

Children at Springwell Park make excellent progress and leave Early Years with secure foundations for future learning. They transition confidently into Year 1 as resilient, enthusiastic and capable learners.
