Year 4 Homework

Homework is an important part of your child’s education.  It provides opportunities for your child to practise new concepts and take responsibility for their learning.

Reading: Please try to read with your child every night and sign their reading record with the date, book and page number. Please ask them questions about the book to develop their understanding; this is crucial to your child’s progress in year 4.  See “Support for Home Reading” on our class page for questioning ideas.

Maths: We will be learning all our times tables in year 4.  These are ongoing and will be tested regularly.  Each half term your child will be given a particular times table set to practise. They need to know these by heart, in a random order and know the division facts which accompany them.

Spellings: Every Tuesday new spelling lists will be sent home in your child’s spelling book.  Please encourage them to practise these throughout the week using “Look, Cover, Say, Write, Check” as a method for learning them.  They will be tested the following Tuesday so their spelling book needs to come in EVERY TUESDAY.

Maths/Topic: Your child’s homework book will be sent home every FRIDAY with either a Maths Mastery or topic-related research homework. This must be completed and returned by the followingTuesday.  Maths Mastery tasks may appear tricky but will help your child to develop a deeper understanding of the Maths being covered in school and will encourage resilience in problem solving.

Thank you for your continued support!
